Creativity and Innovation: Effective Elements for Learning in University Students of Chile

Chilean higher education faces the challenge of effectively incorporating creativity and innovation as fundamental learning elements to meet 21st-century demands. This study analyzed student perceptions regarding the role of creativity and innovation as effective learning elements in Chilean universities, identifying the gap between theoretical valuation and practical application. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied through a structured questionnaire of six dichotomous questions to a non-probabilistic sample of 130 students from various Chilean universities. Results revealed that 85% consider creativity important in their university learning, 70% have had opportunities to develop creative skills, and 75% perceive improvements in their academic performance. However, only 45% have participated in innovation projects, evidencing a significant gap between institutional promotion and actual student participation. It is concluded that creativity and innovation constitute effective elements that improve academic performance and professional preparation, but Chilean universities require more effective strategies to materialize their innovative intentions into systematic practical experiences.
