The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred a critical review of health-related behavior patterns, leading to the emergence of a new paradigm on body and mind care. Inspired by Foucault (1994), proposal on “self-care”, this essay explores the intersection between philosophical reflections and scientific recommendations towards a holistic approach to health. It highlights how the pandemic experience has led to profound reflection on the relationship between the individual, their health, and the scientific community, emphasizing the importance of self-care and collective responsibility. This analysis is based on the contributions of Castañeda and Ramos (2020), who discuss pandemics in history; Foucault (2008), and his analysis on the technologies of the self; Kuhn (1970), with his perspective on scientific paradigms; Lüthy, Ritacco, and Kantor (2018), on the Spanish flu; and Mora (2013), addressing the relationship between technology and health. Through these authors, the essay articulates an anthropological and philosophical vision of health in times of COVID-19, arguing for the emergence of a scientifically backed self-care paradigm, which is projected to influence the conception of human health in the long term.
